SMS programs require a short code. Text Connections can get your program up fast at a fraction of the cost of getting a dedicated short code. Here are the factors to determine if your program is right for sharing a short code: 

 

  • Shared Short Code Precautions
    • The cost per SMS is going to be higher since you didn't invest in a dedicated code.
    • Given the fact that the code is shared, there are no guarantees that someone won't abuse the code and cause the carriers to  turn it off.
    • If you are investing a lot in branding that short code on literature, radio, TV, print, etc.. stick with a dedicated code you can control.
    • All shared short code programs require a keyword (TEXT PIZZA to 12345). That's what routes your traffic into your program. 
    • Conversational traffic is much more difficult on a shared code, since all replies or other inbound traffic needs to be prefixed with a keyword
    • These are tough to use in a reseller account, since we have to assign or approve the keyword;
    • Of course we have to review and approve the program as well, to ensure it is legal and compliant. This is required for shared or dedicated codes.
    • The above items are really Industry standards and not separately Text Connection issues. Other vendors may suggest you can get around them. Just understand you will not be compliant.
